Needs Attention
Extremely poor transit options

Needs Attention
Extremely dangerous pedestrian conditions at broadway and 51.

Yes!! Cannot believe there's basically an extra mile if you want to cross the street here on foot/bike. Not to mention that mile is a terrifying one!!

I see kids from LaFollette risking their lives every day to go to Habaneros or Wendy's on the opposite side of this terrible highway. Habanero's is so good, and the community to the west of highway 51 should be able to go there without a 5 minute plus gauntlet of cars, trucks, sliplanes, inconsistent sidewalks. It's antiquated, it's dangerous, it is terrible for cars too. Change it!
replies
My Idea
51 should not be a freeway. Connect the streets, make it a wide boulevard similar to East Washington. People going fast can use the interstate.
replies
My Idea
Monona Golf Course is an extremely underutilized patch of land in an incredibly high housing demand neighborhood. The time for a near east golf course is gone - and the need for housing is too high. The surrounding neighborhoods deserve access to unrestricted park space, plus the area around LaFollette would be able to redevelop with some condos, apartments, or mixed use along Monona Drive and streets/paths connecting the Allis Neighborhood to Monona.

My Idea
all i've ever wanted is a lake looper bus
replies
Needs Attention
There should be sidewalks along both frontage roads at the very least if the city insists on continuing to do nothing about the glaring community issue that is HWY51
replies
Needs Attention
Extremely dangerous intersection for bike/ped.
replies
My Idea
North Star Park - Kennedy Park pedestrian/bike bridge over the interstate. Connects SE area and Homburgland, which is extremely bike/ped infrastructure deprived.
replies
Needs Attention
Extremely dangerous ped/bike area. Needs crosswalks, curb cuts, sidewalks, and beefed up bike lanes.

Yes, please make this area safer for pedestrians!

Would like to see safer ways for pedestrians to cross Stoughton Road!

Our family would love to see some traffic calming strategies on Maher Ave. People going very fast on Maher (no speed bumps and very few stop signs) and tend to go very fast down the hill at Maher and Hob. There are lots of little kids in this area, and we'd like to see something to help traffic go at a safe residential speed!
replies
Needs Attention
This intersection needs to be addressed for people turning left. We are Y members and our kids do sports at the Y. At certain times of day or after sporting events we frequently get stuck behind cars trying to turn left.

Things I Love
This is a great idea! We love pinney and would love more reasons to stay in the area.

It's also difficult to turn left from cottage grove to Acewood. I frequently get stuck for two-three rounds of lights.

Our kids cross this intersection to go to and from Kennedy Elementary and it terrifies me. Cars drive so fast down this road and the only thing to signal that it's a crossing are signs and chipping paint. I would love to see this road narrowed to slow drivers and something to address safety for kids crossing to school.
replies
Needs Attention
Milwaukee needs a protected bike lane. We bike from the near Kennedy elementary to the east Madison little league areas on the other side of east wash frequently in the summer. I will not bike with my kids on Milwaukee so we end up using the sidewalk because it's the only safe option.
replies
Needs Attention
This intersection leaving Kwik trip is always difficult. It's wide, there's a lot of traffic, and I frequently get stuck there for some time. Roundabout or stoplight would be great!
replies
Needs Attention
The reduction down to one lane here is terribly placed. People do not merge appropriately, there is frequently a line to turn left and when Amazon shift change is happening there is a lot of congestion.
replies
Needs Attention
Accessing the LVM neighborhood from the Heritage Heights neighborhood involves a tricky crossing of busy Cottage Grove Road. At certain times of day (that seem to align with school start/ends!) the sunlight makes the left turn from Inwood or Meadowlark onto Cottage Grove even more challenging. There are frequently cars waiting to turn left in the shared center turn lane so that lane isn't usually available as a stopover. Navigating this area always seems dangerous for pedestrians and cars. Maybe we need a intersection with a stoplight somewhere between Meadowlark and Thompson.

My Idea
Add ped bridge across the outflow here. And improve walking path along the lake in Olbrich. Very underutilized as it is.
replies
My Idea
Keep and adding to the playground!

My Idea
Ped/bike bridge over 39 would be great!

My Idea
Improve bike lanes along cottage grove road here too!
replies
My Idea
Add map signs at points along the bike trail
replies
My Idea
I love the wooded trail along the stormwater pond here. I would love for there to be a trail along the length of the pond.
replies
My Idea
If there is a way to get neighbors on board with putting in sidewalks in the rest of the neighborhood, it would make the roads more walkable.
replies
Needs Attention
Need better turn lane visibility turning S onto Acewood Blvd. I've nearly turned into the wrong lane multiple times. This might look like adding lines on the road or better lighting or something.
replies
My Idea
Add a light for pedestrians to cross the street along this bike/ped path
replies
Needs Attention
There is a terrible smell coming from this industrial area every now and then. Is there something that can be done to mitigate this?
replies
Needs Attention
Pedestrian crossing lane is needed across cottage grove between the two conservation parks.
replies
My Idea
A mixed use pedestrian bridge, bike bridge or tunnel to cross 51 would allow better continuity between neighborhoods, safer crossing for kids and adults.
replies
My Idea
It would be great to have a coffee shop or something in this center. The library is great and all, but there's nothing else to do in this complex
replies
Needs Attention
Sigglekow is basically a similar kind of arterial to Cottage Grove Road. City of Madison should enable the development of neighborhood destinations on our part of it

Things I Love
I agree, the Biergarten is one of the absolute highlights of my summer
replies
Needs Attention
Car traffic here is too fast. Even if I drive 5 over, people tailgate, and occasionally will pass (illegally) on the right in the parking and bike lanes
replies
My Idea
This park has a lot of empty fields that no one uses. It would be nice to see at least part of this area turned into a natural area with native plants and walking paths
replies
Needs Attention
Tulane is extremely wide and people drive way too fast on it
replies

My Idea
Walter is also a neighborhood road. Just because people use it as a shortcut doesn't mean the residents' needs should be ignored
replies
Things I Love
I'm looking forward to the future bike/ped bridge here
replies
My Idea
Long term, I'd like to see the path on Walter extend all the way to the new neighborhood to the north. But even extending it one block would make a lot of difference. After crossing the tracks and the drainage stream, there are more options
replies
Needs Attention
Problematic intersection!
replies
My Idea
Would really like to have a walkable dog park easily accessible to Eastmorland. It is long overdue.
replies
Needs Attention
There is an RRFB here, but traffic is very bad at complying with it. The problem is that at Drexel the east bound side opens up to two lanes, and starts to feel like a highway. It's also much harder to cross two travel lanes--longer crossing distance and you need two vehicles to agree to stop for you. The one lane configuration further west should be extended. It's not like Drexel contributes an entire lanes worth of volume
replies
Things I Love
I love having old growth trees lining the streets. They would be safer to enjoy with dedicated paths. There's enough room for everyone on so many of our roads because they are so wide. As we gain a little density through small up-zoning over the decades, these improvements will be enjoyed by many more neighbors!

My Idea
Yes! My concern is that there is no safe space for people to move out of the way for a vehicle coming down the lane. Bikes and wheelchairs can mount driveway aprons and all folks can continue moving on small curbed sidewalks. Curbs can also house drainage infrastructure. There is also little light along this road. Low trail lights can help make this space feel even better. Raised intersections can slow traffic without impeding residents entering/leaving their garage. Street markings denoting 2-way bike/ped and 1-way signal to drivers they are sharing this space.
replies
My Idea
In addition to continuing the shared path up along Dempsy, an alternative route along Buckingham and Ontario from Ontario park to Eastmorland park would also be nice. Traffic calming, markings, and signage at intersections can make this a pleasant route, especially in winter if the roads are plowed before the paths.
replies

My Idea
Continuing the shared path all the way to Eastmorland park is a no-brainer. Then once a plan for the areas along Milwaukee are developed, we can continue the path the rest of the way.
