What areas of the city do we want to influence design?
The City has review processes for the development of private property. For some projects, design review may be required by the Urban Design Commission (UDC). Design review by the UDC is determined based on the type of project or project location, including if a property is in an Urban Design District (UDD). Each UDD has a unique set of design guidelines and requirements that speak to site planning, building design, landscape, lighting, signage, etc.
There are currently eight (8) UDDs in the City of Madison, which are shown on the map below. Each UDD is generally located along a major roadway corridor, including John Nolen Drive, Schroeder Road, S Whitney Way, Packers Avenue, E Washington Avenue University Avenue, and S Park Street. Outside of these areas, design review is also required in many parts of the Downtown.
Help staff identify areas of interest where design guidelines and requirements should apply.
Where do you think design should be influenced? Are there areas where you think design should not be influenced?
